What Is Exterior Waterproofing?

Exterior waterproofing is the most effective method to prevent water from penetrating a home or building’s foundation. By applying a waterproof barrier and installing a proper drainage system on the outside of your foundation, we protect the structure from environmental moisture, groundwater pressure, and seasonal weather conditions common throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

Our Exterior Waterproofing Process

At NC Construction & Waterproofing, our process is precise, proven, and professionally executed:

1. Excavation

We begin by carefully excavating the soil around your foundation, exposing the exterior walls for full access and assessment.

2. Surface Cleaning & Inspection

Foundation walls are thoroughly cleaned and inspected for cracks, holes, and damage. Structural repairs are made using hydraulic cement or industry-grade sealants.

3. Application of Waterproof Membrane

A high-performance waterproof membrane — typically rubberized asphalt or polymer-modified bitumen — is applied to the foundation walls to create a moisture-resistant barrier.

4. Installation of Drainage System

We install a weeping tile or French drain system at the base of the foundation. Surrounded by clean gravel and protected with a filter fabric, this system effectively redirects groundwater away from your property.

5. Backfilling & Site Restoration

Once all systems are in place, we backfill the area with soil and compact it to restore the landscape to its original condition — clean, level, and well-drained.
